Pigmented Lesions

Procedure: 20-30 minutes   |   Recommendation: Usually 1-3 visits depending on technology used

Laser removal of various skin pigmented and non-pigmented benign lesions including moles, nevus and freckles.

Safely and comfortably remove sun and age spots from your face, chest, arms, and hands. The signs of sun damage will flake off after one or two treatments, leaving clear, younger looking skin. We will provide you with gel or anesthetic cream for your comfort.

What areas can be treated?

Virtually any part of your body with sun and age spots, melasma or freckles can be safely treated. The face, chest, shoulders, and arms are the most popular areas for treatment because they have typically had the most sun exposure. Both discrete spots and skin densely covered with freckles respond well to treatment.

What does the treatment do?

The visible light delivered is selectively absorbed by the pigmented spots on your skin. It’s the destruction of the pigmented cells by heating that causes the therapeutic effect.

How long will the treatment take?

The actual treatment will take less than a half an hour. For those that select to have a topical anesthetic cream applied your appointment will be approximately 15 minutes longer to ensure the cream is effective. Your total appointment time can easily fit into your lunch hour.

How many treatments will I need?

Typically, one or two treatments are sufficient to see dramatic results. Additional treatments may be required for very large or dark spots or for densely covered areas. These are usually due to the melanin pigment which is darkened by sun exposure. There are several different techniques with different lasers which varies the treatment times, frequencies and costs. During your consultation we will recommend the best option based on your specific needs and budget.

What happens after the treatment and are there any side effects?

Immediately following the treatment, the spots may start to darken which typically last several days. You may notice a slight reddening of the surrounding skin. This typically subsides within a couple of hours. Over the course of the next one to three weeks, darkened spots will fade and flake off. Consult with your medical professional for complete information on the benefits and risks of treatment.

Will the spots reappear over time?

New spots may appear. These too can be removed. These lesions are due to the melanin pigment and excessive sun exposure may cause re-appearance of spots. Remember to liberally apply sunscreen when outdoors to minimize sun damage and the appearance of new spots.
